Bollington is a Walkers are Welcome Town and achieved its accreditation in 2013.
The town of Bollington is nicknamed the “Happy Valley” and sits on the South-Western edge of the Peak District with its iconic landmark, White Nancy rising above the town. A landscape of quaint stone cottages, majestic mills and mill chimneys provides a backdrop for some wonderful walks, brim-full of history and heritage.
Bollington is a popular destination for walkers of all abilities thanks to its fantastic location as a gateway Peak District town. The town has numerous walker friendly businesses and paths, tracks and trails provide routes that lead straight from the town to the varied surrounding countryside. Bollington is one of Cheshire’s market towns and its industrial heritage as a cotton producing town is all around and includes the former transport routes of the Macclesfield canal and the Middlewood Way, once a railway line, now a nature reserve and popular cycle and walking route linking Macclesfield to Marple. Both run through the heart of Bollington and provide fantastic links to the many other paths and byways.
Walkers are Welcome is a network of over 100 towns and villages across the UK. They have come together to help people enjoy the outdoors through walking. Membership of the network helps to ensure that our footpaths and facilities are maintained in good condition to benefit local people, our many visitors and the local economy.

Bollington is beautifully situated on the edge of the Peak District, surrounded by spectacular countryside and served by a comprehensive network of footpaths just crying out to be explored. Its industrial history can be appreciated from many of the local walks, not least the towpath alongside the Macclesfield Canal and the Middlewood Way which provides a safe walking, cycling and horseriding route along the former Macclesfield to Marple Railway. Whether you wish to be part of a serious walking group, join in with a sociable ramble or explore the countryside by yourself there is something for everyone.
